![]() It is up to you to separate the parts and delete the half that isn't wanted. On the Part workbench, use part -> split -> slice and slice apart or slice to compound. Freecad can also cut a model using a plane or an irregular cutting surface. If you get stuck with all you menu options in Part workbench greyed out, you probably need to click Ok or Apply in Combo View -> tasks Something similar can be done in the Part Design workbench instead. Repeat last few steps but this time select intersection instead of cut. Now you have your original part and your cutter cube again. In combo view -> model, hold ctrl and select both the converted mesh and the cube you created. In Combo View -> Model, click on the cube you created and adjust size and placement (and rotation if needed) Change views (Top, Front, Right, isometic, etc) as needed numerically, using the increment/decrement buttons, or dragging the little axes (for placement). Tight click the unconverted mesh in the combo view -> model and make invisible. In combo view -> model select the object you imported and create shape from mesh. The free, open-source, cross-platform meshlab program can do general mesh cleanup operations. In additon, the same splitting techniques in many cases can be used on the original editable models instead of an STL, when used with a program that recognizes that file format.
